A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of New York University, Kirsten Jansen has been with Schwartz & Perry since February 2008. Prior to starting law school, Ms. Jansen served as a Vice-President at Cylo, Inc., an interactive television production company, where she was responsible for representing the company and its services at events all around the world. Ms. Jansen was a Prince Scholar at Brooklyn Law School and was one of three students in her class selected to be an International Business Law Fellow. While still in law school, Ms. Jansen gained significant employment law experience while working and interning at Chanel and Elizabeth Arden. In addition, Ms. Jansen was Vice-President of the Brooklyn Law School Moot Court Honor Society, competing in appellate advocacy competitions nationally, and garnering the Judge Max E. Cooper Scholarship Award for excellence in advocacy. Ms. Jansen also received Cali Awards for Excellence in Legal Writing I, Legal Writing II, Appellate Advocacy, and Trial Advocacy. Additionally, Ms. Jansen served as a member of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law, and her article addressing corporate violations of international human rights laws earned her the Abraham J. Briloff Ethics Award for the best student ethics paper. She was also an active volunteer teacher at the School of Law and Social Justice while in law school.
Prior to joining Schwartz & Perry, Ms. Jansen gained considerable negotiation experience at Linowes Law Firm, where she was responsible for negotiating and drafting key crew and cast employment contracts on several motion pictures. At Schwartz & Perry, Ms. Jansen has had exposure to all aspects of employment law including gender, age, race, national origin, religious, disability, sexual orientation and pregnancy discrimination cases, as well as sexual harassment, retaliation, contract and other tort claims, options, benefits, tax issues and review of employment and severance agreements.
Ms. Jansen has worked closely with the partners and senior associate of Schwartz & Perry on trials and motion practice. In addition, Ms. Jansen has negotiated settlements, severance and settlement agreements, has participated in mediations at alternative dispute resolution forums and has gained experience navigating and working on cases with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Having worked initially for management, Ms. Jansen has a unique perspective on employment issues, and is now wholly dedicated to helping Schwartz & Perry continue to fight for the rights of employees in the workplace.
